Sevylor Offers an Array of Inflatable Kayaks with Pluses and Minuses
Water recreation is big business. A major player in the industry is Sevylor. Designers and builders of inflatable watercraft; Sevylor has been around since the late 1940’s. Kayaks and canoes became their number one products. The company is not limited to creating water sports equipment for just North America. They enjoy a global presence with products that are portable and made for everyday leisure.
The company that was and is Sevylor
A company like Sevylor is a proven brand in the marketplace. What is intriguing about them is that time has caused them to design and grow and design again. The companies that flourish are the ones that look at what is trending and respond accordingly. That is Sevylor. Customer satisfaction is key to success, and they listen to what the people are saying about their brand.
The progression of the company through the years has been a complete transformation. The company began in Europe after the WWII. In their own words, “The invention of an inflatable bathtub transformed the small company into the world’s dominant supplier of PVC inflatables.”
From that slight transition, Sevylor found their bread and butter to success. Through the years, they developed fantastic floating, portable floating craft. Their kayaks, canoes, paddleboards, and accessories grew into a staple for the industry.
Pros for Sevylor watercraft
- Their inflatable kayaks and canoes are considered quite easy to inflate. Short duration is all that is needed for a completely inflated kayak.
- When traveling through the water, the different models move relatively easily and respond well to each paddle stroke.
- Affordability for Sevylor kayaks and canoes doesn’t appear to break the budget. Millennials and families seem to agree the purchase matches the overall quality.
- Built to handle “bigger” people (alluding to weight).
- The company strives to meet the public expectations with a wide array of product choices.
Cons for Sevylor watercraft
- Mainly usable in settled water areas comparable to ponds and lakes. For faster water movement such as rivers, not the best option.
- Accessories, such as paddles may break periodically.
- Seams along seats tend to come apart.

A look at some of Sevylor’s products
1. Sevylor Quikpak K1
This the company’s premier 1-person inflatable kayak. This five-chamber watercraft is easily aired up and air removed with the same pump. The entire process takes approximately 5-10 minutes to complete.
The Quikpak utilizes a backpack to make carrying the kayak easy. The removal and replacement of the bag appear to be simple. That equates to a reasonable time for the set-up and tear down, allowing for more time on the water.
This craft is designed with five individual chambers. Seating is designed to maintain even balance during the time in the water.
The most common issue appears to be this is Sevylor’s one design that doesn’t handle the best in the water. Extra effort to paddle to a spot is needed. Others found the motion of the craft to be smooth.
A great little craft to go out and do some fishing and enjoy a bit of solitude. A couple will enjoy paddling in their kayaks for day fun.
2. Sevylor Quikpak K5
The Quikpak K5 as a 1-person craft continues Sevylor’s success. This watercraft is built durable, and the I-beam addition allows for better stability. Without reservation, this kayak will do well for a starter in the sport.
Inflating this craft is right on par with most of Sevylor’s kayaks. The time frame to air-up and deflate is in short order. Air mattresses can take longer than getting air into the Challenger. That is one complaint not found with this boat.
Unlike the k1, this 1-person kayak has the hallmarks of more natural paddling capability. Stroke after stroke, this inflatable moves much easier in tracking and forward motion. That says considerable when the desire is to enjoy a day out without receiving a workout.
The consensus with many that use this craft is ridden well in the water; especially to kayakers of size. Confidence in this kayak is diminished in any way.
3. Sevylor Fiji 2
Just because this is a 2-seater inflatable kayak, it doesn’t mean the Explorer is more laborious to inflate. In fact, the ease of inflation and deflation is right on track. This makes it a craft of convenience in various respects. So, looking at its “convenience” seems a logical approach.
Convenient for its safety. As a 2-person craft, this Sevylor product equates to established balance and movement within when on the water. Floating low in the water is not a known factor according to many users. What is extra important comes in the self-bailing aspect of the kayak.
Convenient to use. When in sync with your co-rider paddling; this “pleasure craft” cuts through the water with complete simplicity.
Convenience in transition. The inner seats are removable which makes for more room inside the craft. Getting in and out of the Fiji K2 doesn’t look to be difficult.
Nice cruise for two people wanting to get out on the water together.
4. Sevylor Coleman Colorado
Although it is technically a 2-person kayak, the Sevylor Coleman Colorado has the appearance of a canoe. Maybe that is why some people refer to it as such.
This craft is as easily operated by one person as it is a couple. What makes this a favorite among the Sevylor craft family is the attention to design and construction. Some products may lack in being well-built. That is not the case in the Colorado kayak. With multiple air chambers, this craft stays above water if one chamber begins to lose air.
The Coleman Colorado moves like a charm through the water. It may slip when winds come along. However, the overall control is maintained in the long run.
The critical issue of inflation and getting the air out is none. In short order, you have a kayak…canoe…kayak that makes for a pleasurable outing.
Despite a few minor issues with accessory construct and water travel, Sevylor offers an affordable product for watercraft users to enjoy. If history is any indication, Sevylor is looking to a bright, continuous future.
